Global stock markets this week downbeat NEW YORK: Global stock market this week remained in the grip of pessimism, which saw the investors playing safe in trading.

Dow Jones, S&P and Nesdak indexes recorded fall by 6.2, 7 and 6.1 percent respectively in the US stock market this week. Dow Jones index remained at its lowest after 1997 and S$P-500 index after 1996.

On the other hand in Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei-225 index dropped by 3.5 percent and closed at 7173 points. European markets were no exception, as they also remained subdued during the week—London FTSE-100 index wrapped up at 3531 points without any change, while Frankfurt’s DAX index also remained in the negative zone.
